Earlier this month, we introduced you to Los Angeles-based artist Jenny March and her debut single ‘California Daze’. Armed with hashtaggable lyrics and a catchy chorus, it’s safe to say that we’ve been hooked on the song since our first listen.
It’s no wonder that we then jumped at the chance to quiz Jenny all about ‘California Daze’ and her forthcoming music. Check out our chat below, where Jenny reveals how long it took to write the song, what we can expect from her future music and what the rest of 2018 has in store for her.

Hi Jenny, welcome to CelebMix! First off, we absolutely love your debut single ‘California Daze’. For anyone who’s yet to hear it, how would you describe it in three words?
I’m so glad you all enjoy it! I’d describe it as youthful, carefree, and blissful.
Can you tell us about the creative process behind the song and how long it took you to write?
It’s funny because “California Daze” was the first song Tony, Knox and I ever worked on together. It took about 2 days to write. Tony started playing some chords and I started to sing melodies over it. After Tony added a little more production to the song, Tony, Knox and I finished writing it.
Why did you choose ‘California Daze’ as your debut single?
The relationship described in the song is a metaphor for the days that are slipping away from me that I could be in the studio. We all have those distractions that will hold us back and I want to be a voice for the youth that are going through the trials we all do as kids, transforming into adults, whatever their dreams and goals may be, and I felt like this song represents that the best.
Are there any plans for a music video for ‘California Daze’? If so, what can you tell us about the concept?
Yes, I am meeting with several directors to come up with a treatment idea in the next few weeks.
You’re currently working towards an EP. What kind of themes can we expect from your future music?
You can expect a lot of female independence and a variety of emotions and moods from “avocado toast” to late night Uber rides you regret in the morning.
You had the chance to work with producer Tony Rodini on your forthcoming music – what was he like to work with?
Tony was amazing to work with and we became really close from it. We immediately had great chemistry and he was able to capture what I wanted for my debut project.
What’s your favorite lyric that you’ve ever written?
If I drink a drop of you, I’m gonna want the whole damn bottle.
or
We were stars. We were meant to explode.

Who would you say are your three current musical inspirations?
Right now I’m listening to a lot of Kehlani, Billie Eilish and Halsey.
What do you hope that people will take away from your music?
I hope that people aren’t afraid to be themselves and feel confident enough to not feel the need to change themselves for anyone. Embrace your flaws because no one’s perfect and never apologize for being you!
You began your career as an actress before making the move to music. What made you decide to follow music as a career path?
I did a lot of musical theater growing up so I was constantly singing, acting, and dancing, but music has always been my biggest passion and the best emotional outlet for me.
Would you consider going back to acting in the future?
Most definitely! I still love it.
What else can we expect from you during 2018?
A lot more music, music videos, and shows!
Thank you to Jenny March for her time! Make sure you keep up to date with her on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
